About Ivo Mojzer

Ivo Mojzer is a Slovenian musician, songwriter and singer, born on 4 January 1948 in Maribor. He started out as an instrumentalist, on accordion, bassoon and drums, and played in many important Slovenian and Yugoslav rock bands, among them Biseri, Kameleoni and Indexi.

From the early 1970s he sang as a soloist at Slovenska popevka, Melodije morja in sonca and the Festival narečne popevke, thirty appearances in all, and at festivals across Yugoslavia, both on his own and as a member of Pepel in kri. With that group he took "Dan ljubezni" from the 1975 Opatija festival to the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. He has also performed abroad, in the former Soviet Union, Germany, Italy and Kenya and in many clubs in the United States.

His first single came out on Helidon in 1974: "Polnočni kavboj", Ivo Štrakl's Slovenian version of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'", with "Koledar ljubezni" by Milan Ferlež and Svetlana Makarovič. The same year he made his name at Slovenska popevka with "Cifra-mož" by Jože Privšek and Frane Milčinski - Ježek, which came out on a shared single with Oto Pestner, and a long partnership with the festival followed. His other hits include "Deček z ulice", "Ti si rekla sonce" and "Praviš mi s pogledi", and he has written hits of his own.

His albums include Deček z ulice (cassette, RTV Ljubljana, 1976) and, on Helidon, Prišla si kot nasmeh (1977), Pesem za vse (1979), Ženska je vino (1982), V srcu večno mlad (2012) and the double CD Zaigral bom na harmoniko (2013). He has worked with composers and arrangers such as Privšek, Mojmir Sepe, Jure Robežnik, Bojan Adamič, Dečo Žgur and Berti Rodošek, and with lyricists such as Dušan Velkaverh, Svetlana Makarovič and Elza Budau. He also sang with Tatjana Dremelj.

In 2017 Ivo Mojzer published his autobiography, Srečen je, kdor zares živi, written with Darja Kebe. In 2021 Helidon, his label from the very beginning, released the vinyl LP Ti si rekla sonce, with older and newer songs, including duets with Oliver Dragojević and Rok Ferengja.
