Hajdi

Hajdi, born Hajdi Korošec on 22 January 1979 in Celje, is a former Slovenian pop singer who became a star as a child in the early 1990s. She grew up in Lokrovec, learned the piano at music school and sang in a children's and youth choir.

Her chance came at an audition held by Brendi, where she was chosen from 43 young singers. She made her debut in 1990 with "Naš kuža" on a compilation of the Mandarina label, and the compilation Naj naj naj 6 sold more than 37,000 copies. For her first album Brendi wrote most of the songs, while Oto Pestner and Marijan Smode contributed one each, and her parents helped with the lyrics. Listeners of Radio Ptuj voted her the third best singer of 1990.

The album Hajdi (1992) sold more than 60,000 copies and earned a diamond record. Slovenian Wikipedia notes that she was not the first child singer to become famous in Slovenia, but the only one to reach the level of the country's best-selling popular musicians, and that her success started a wave of child singers. Oblečem si oblekico followed in 1993, and songs such as "Nisem važna", "Prodajalka vijolic", "V naši šoli", "Nore počitnice" and "Petelinček" were hits with young listeners.

As she grew up, her music did too. Če pomežikneš mi (1996) was largely written by her father, a rock fan who ran the Celje label Coda, and Piha veter s Triglava (1998) mixed songs for small children with pop and rock for older listeners; she filmed a video for "Ogenj gori". At Slovenska popevka 1999 she sang "Tvoj pogled muči me" and finished fourth, and in 2003 she sang "Bodi tu" at the Hit festival. She also hosted Mini pet, a chart show of children's music videos on TV Medvode.

Hajdi later left music, studied economics and management, and worked in banking. Today she runs an online business selling children's equipment and writes a blog.
