About Fran Vasilić
Fran Vasilić is a Croatian bedroom and indie pop singer and songwriter who sings mostly in English. He spent the first nineteen years of his life on the island of Krk and later studied political science in Amsterdam.
He began writing his debut album in late 2019 and finished much of it on Krk during the 2020 lockdown, after his classes moved online. He wrote every song himself, producing some tracks entirely alone in Ableton Live and others with producers he found on SoundCloud. The album, Retrovizor, came out in September 2020: eight songs of synths and voice about his own life, from "Twenty Twenties", the first song he wrote, after losing someone close to him, to "Day 39/167", written on his 39th day on Krk, "Japanese Pancakes", "Oh No", "I Know" and "It's Been a Fun Ride, but It's Time to Say Goodbye". He named The Strokes, Rex Orange County, Djo, Joji and Valentina Bošković among his influences.
A series of viral TikTok posts made his name. Retrovizor passed 7.5 million streams on Spotify and entered Apple Music's Top 100 Alternative Albums chart in Malaysia. In Croatia he was supported early by Yammat radio's show Breakout, and critic Dubravko Jagatić reviewed the album for Nacional. After it came the EP The Very Last Thoughts on Earth (2022) and singles such as "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)", "Part of the Machine", "La La La La La", "Happy Birthday" and "Round & Around".
In 2024 he was nominated for the Music Moves Europe Awards, and played the Eurosonic showcase festival. The playlist here is his debut album, Retrovizor.
