About Edvin Fliser

Edvin Fliser is a Slovenian pop singer and songwriter, born on 26 October 1947 in Šibenik, Croatia. He lived there until he was about seven, then moved to his grandfather's house in Maribor, the city he is known for. He is one of the best-known authors of the Slovenian popevka and has written more than 350 songs for other performers.

In Maribor he took up the accordion and finished lower music school with it, then secondary technical school and the music department of the teacher training academy. While still at school he met Boemi, an army band playing dances at the youth hostel on Radvanjska cesta. His first known performance was "Kriva je le bossa nova" with them, and when he sang a Beatles song they were struggling with at a rehearsal, he was on stage with them that same evening.

When Boemi went home, he carried on with the group Rdeči dečki. In 1967 they came third at the guitar festival in Zagreb with Tom Jones's "Green, Green Grass of Home", and the next year he was named best vocal soloist at the Slovenian guitar festival. Jury chairman Jure Robežnik told him he would sing at Slovenska popevka, and in 1968 he made his debut there with "Tam, kjer sem doma", which finished third, and "Zgodovina moje žalosti".

In 1970 "Solza, ki je ne prodam" won the first prize of the expert jury, in 1972 he sang "Otroci morja", and in 1973 "Leti, leti lastovka", by Boris Kovačič and Gregor Strniša, won the audience vote. Dana, who had won Eurovision for Ireland, later sang it in English. After his military service he won a jury award with "Kjer se nasmeh konča". He also worked with Pepel in kri, sang folk and dialect music, and at Melodije morja in sonca sang "Plavo morje je moj dom" with Neca Falk in 1978, returning there through 1982 and again in 1996 and 1997.

His records go back to the 1968 EP Tam, kjer sem doma and include albums such as Mati Slovenija (1990), Naj živi ljubezen (2001) and the double collection Mojih 40 naj... (2008), as well as German-language singles. Edvin Fliser has also spent much of his time as a mentor to young singers, writing songs for them and guiding their careers.
