About Dr. Sin

Dr. Sin is a Brazilian hard rock band from São Paulo, formed in 1991 by the brothers Andria and Ivan Busic with guitarist Eduardo "Edu" Ardanuy. The band is on Muzika-Balkan because of the Busic brothers' father, André Busic, a jazz trumpeter who played in the Traditional Jazz Band and Blue Gang and was a Croatian immigrant to Brazil. Dr. Sin is still a São Paulo band, and Ivan, the drummer, was born there in 1967; Andria, the bassist and lead singer, was born in 1965.

At home the brothers heard jazz, blues and country alongside the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. They formed Platina in 1984 and Cherokee in 1988, backed guitarist Wander Taffo in the band Taffo, whose album Rosa Branca was a big success, and Andria also toured with Ultraje a Rigor. With Ardanuy they became the backing band of singer Supla, then decided to go their own way. Dr. Sin's first concert was on 11 January 1992 at the Black Jack in São Paulo, and in May they opened for Ian Gillan.

Warner Music released their debut, Dr. Sin, in nine countries in 1993. "Emotional Catastrophe" became a hit on MTV and part of the soundtrack of the series Confissões de Adolescente, followed by "You Stole My Heart" and "Scream & Shout". They played Hollywood Rock in 1993, on the same bill as Nirvana, and Monsters of Rock in 1994 with Slayer, Black Sabbath and Kiss, and opened for Pantera, Bon Jovi and AC/DC. Brutal (1995) came out in Japan as Silent Scream, and Insinity (1997) brought "Futebol, Mulher & Rock 'n Roll" with sports commentator Silvio Luiz, one of their best-loved songs.

American singer Michael Vescera joined for Dr. Sin II (2000). Then came 10 Years Live (2003), the covers album Listen to the Doctors (2005) and Bravo (2007), which reached first place in CD sales and gave "Think It Over" to a soap opera soundtrack. In 2009 the band opened for Kiss at the Anhembi before more than 40,000 people; Animal (2012) and Intactus (2015) followed, and in 2013 they played Rock in Rio.

In 2015 Dr. Sin announced its end and played a farewell tour until March 2016, and the brothers started Busic, a band singing in Portuguese. In October 2018 they brought Dr. Sin back with guitarist Thiago Melo and released Back Home Again, and an acoustic live album followed in 2023. The playlist is the band's Topic channel, from "Emotional Catastrophe" to "Lost in Space".
