About Ben Dolic
Ben Dolic, born Benjamin Dolić on 4 May 1997 in Ljubljana, is a Slovenian pop singer whose career took off in Germany. His parents come from Velika Kladuša in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He sings in English and became known to a wide audience as the runner-up of The Voice of Germany and as Germany's chosen singer for Eurovision 2020.
He started young. At 12 he reached the semi-final of Slovenija ima talent, the Slovenian version of Got Talent, and then sang at many song festivals for children, including one in Turkey where he won a silver medal and toured the country, singing in stadiums and arenas for crowds of up to 40,000. In high school he joined the group D Base, and with them he sang "Spet živ", a song he co-wrote, at EMA 2016, Slovenia's Eurovision selection, where they went out in the first round.
In 2018 he auditioned for the eighth season of The Voice of Germany with Ariana Grande's "No Tears Left to Cry". Yvonne Catterfeld and Mark Forster both turned, he joined Team Yvonne, and he went all the way to the final, where he sang with Zara Larsson and finished second behind Samuel Rösch. He then toured arenas in Germany and Austria with The Voice of Germany Live in Concert tour.
On 27 February 2020 the German broadcaster ARD announced that it had chosen him to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam with "Violent Thing". It was his first release, and it quickly entered the German airplay charts and became a fan favourite, but on 18 March 2020 the contest was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He kept recording. "Stuck in My Mind", which grew out of a writing camp in Brighton and was finished over Zoom during lockdown, came out in 2021, and "Kissing Her, Missing You" followed. Later singles include "headspace", "how i'm feeling" and "alright", and the more recent "still the same", "me against myself", "colours", "Hold on" and "Vertigo".
