About Amela Zuković

Amela Zuković is a Bosnian folk singer, born on 18 November 1963 in Sarajevo, where she still lives and works. She began singing while still in secondary school, and once she was performing in kafanas she left her course at a transport school; as a girl she had wanted to become a teacher.

Her first single came out in 1982 with the songs "Najdraži moj" and "Ti možeš naći hiljadu drugih", and her first album followed on Diskoton in 1983. Through the 1980s she worked with some of the best-known names of Yugoslav folk music: Iz inata (1985) was made with Perica Simonović's orchestra, the songs of Karmen Ciganka (1987) were written by Muharem Serbezovski, with whom she also recorded the duet "Vraćam se kući, vraćam", and most of Neka ljubav caruje (1989) came from Halid Muslimović. Zoro moja, zoro plava followed on Diskoton in 1991.

In the 1990s she recorded with Džavid Ljubovci's Džavid Band: Dijete Sarajeva (1993), Važi il ne važi (1994) and Kraljica bez krune (1998). Žena kao ja (1996) was released by Avaz, with Šerif Konjević as her guest on the title song.

She kept recording into the new century with Daj, daj, igraj ti (2000), Žena bez imena (2002) on NP Music, Biću kriva (2005) on Renome and Odigrano pogrešno (2009). A compilation of her greatest hits, shared with Mirsada Čizmić, came out in 2011. Among her best-known songs are "Žena ostavljena", "Momačko veče", "Tuđe usne" and "Ti imaš ljubav novu", and "Ljubila sam zabranjeno" had passed a million views on YouTube by 2021.

Amela Zuković performs regularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the wider region and across Europe. She has a son, Alis, whom she calls her greatest success.
