Pips, Chips & Videoclips

Pips, Chips & Videoclips is a Croatian rock band from Zagreb, formed in 1992 by singer Dubravko Ivaniš and guitarist Alen Kraljić. The name is a play on the film title Sex, Lies, and Videotape, and their albums of the 1990s collected a long row of Porin and Crni mačak awards.

Ivaniš and Kraljić found bassist Mario Borščak and drummer Igor Paradiš at Grill Zapruđe, a diner in Zagreb's Zapruđe neighbourhood. Their first big song was "Dinamo ja volim", inspired by The Adicts' version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" and opening with Dragutin Domjanić's poem "Popevke sem slagal"; it became the fans' anthem of Dinamo Zagreb. It was on their debut album Shimpoo Pimpoo (1993), with "Gume na kotačima" and "Prvi joint u ustima".

Dernjava (1995) won the Porin for best alternative rock album and gave them "Malena" and "Poštar lakog sna", a version of The Pogues' "A Rainy Night in Soho", whose video featured Goran Bare of Majke, Davor Gobac of Psihomodo Pop and Kojoti. Fred Astaire (1997), recorded on Učka, was album of the year at the Porin awards; "Plači", with Darko Rundek, won the Porin for collaboration of the year, and the album took four Crni mačak awards. A sold-out concert at Dom sportova followed in April 1998, and Ante Perković wrote the band's biography, Dugi vikend u zemlji čudesa.

Bog (1999) won two more Porins, including best rock album. Kraljić and guitarist Tristan Karas left during the tour that followed, and Nikola Radman joined. Then came the singles "Narko", "Motorcycle Boy" and "Ultraoptimizam", the albums Drveće i rijeke (2003), Pjesme za gladijatore (2007, with "Teroristi plaču"), Walt (2013) and Vesna (2023), and the live album Dokument (2005). In December 2014 they sold out Dom sportova again for one of the biggest concerts of their career.

The band today is Ivaniš, Ivan Božanić, Zdeslav Klarić, Krunoslav Tomašinec, Pavle Gulić and Viktor Slamnig. Their playlist here is the band's official channel, with the music videos from "Dinamo ja volim" to "Teroristi plaču".
