About Mile Petrović

Mile Petrović is a folk singer from Bosnia and Herzegovina whose songs were released as singles and EPs by Jugoton in the 1960s and early 1970s, the years when the Zagreb label put out a steady stream of small records of Bosnian songs. Little has been published about his life: no birth date, birthplace or biography could be found, so his records are what remains to tell his story.

Croatia Records, which holds the Jugoton catalogue, has reissued his recordings in its series of Bosnian EPs and singles, EP ploče - BiH and SY ploče - BiH. The oldest dated track, "Hajde, pjesmo moja lakih krila", is from 1964; "Zvijezda tjera mjeseca" comes from the 1971 record Pokraj grada Sarajeva.

His repertoire reads like a map of Bosnia. He sang new folk songs by Dragiša Nedović, among them "Pjevaj Bosno", "Prođoh Bosnom kroz gradove", "Od Saraj'va do Mostara", "Šta sve može ašik da učini" and "Imam jednu želju malu", and by Jovica Petković, such as "Šeher grade kraj hladna Vrbasa", "Mlade Prijedorčanke", "Lijepa Fata" and "Stara mjesta mene zovu". There are also "Kad me ljudi zapitaju" by Rade Jovanović, "Dobio sam tri poljupca" by Jozo Penava, "Sarajevo, grade na Miljacki" by Milan Bogunović and Božidar Ivanišević, and "Ne znam šta ću ni kako ću" by Ismet Alajbegović Šerbo.

Next to them stand traditional songs such as "Oj, Mostaru, širok li si", "Kroz moju malu bašticu" and "Kasno pođoh na lov u jelene". The playlist gathers these reissued recordings in one place.
