Memorija

Memorija is a Macedonian band formed in 1984, which started out playing pop-rock. It was founded by guitarist Dušan Trpkovski - Ringo, Petar Georgievski - Kamikaza and bassist Dimitar Bogdanov.

In its early years the line-up changed often. With its first singer, Zoran Ili - Zoci, the band made a demo album that produced the hit "Nena", and it began playing concerts in Skopje. When Ringo and Zoran left, the group recorded its debut studio album, Ogan pod dzvezdite (1989), with Apostol Poce Ikonomov on vocals, Georgievski on bass, Antonio Dimitrievski on drums, Dejan Kuzmanovski and Valentino Skenderovski on keyboards, and Ico Jovkovski and Bane Popović on guitars. Skenderovski, who had returned after a short spell with Leb i Sol, produced it. It was the first studio album released by the music and cassette production of Radio Television Skopje, today's MKP MRT.

The second album, Oktomvriski doždovi (1991), included the band's version of "Makedonija" from the repertoire of Time and Dado Topić, which is still one of their most played songs live. The live album Memorija Live was recorded on 27 October 1991 at the Hard Rock club in Skopje. Zošto Bože? followed in 1993.

Poce Ikonomov was later replaced as singer by Risto Samardžiev, a former member of Cilindar and Haos in Laos and a four-time Makfest winner. With him the band re-recorded some of its older songs and made its last studio album, Memorija 5 (1995), which included "Dirlada" and "Dek' si be cimer", a song first recorded by Penicilin.

Memorija is still playing. The live album Baladi Memorija came out in 2017 and Memorija i prijatelite in 2022, and a big Skopje concert in 2024 was filmed and released song by song on the band's channel. Alongside "Nena", "Ogan pod dzvezdite" and "Makedonija", songs such as "Iljada pesni" and "Našite sliki" are fixtures of their concerts.
