About Hašim Muharemović
Hašim Muharemović was a Bosnian sevdah singer and saz player, born on 22 March 1937 in Srebrenik. He was also a songwriter and a painter, and by profession a physician: he took his medical degree in Sarajevo in 1971, passed his professional exam in Novi Sad in 1975 and became a well-known epidemiologist, working at the health centre in Srebrenik.
His saz playing and singing were heard and applauded across the former Yugoslavia. In 1974 Diskoton released his single "Sinoć prođe tuđe momče", and in 1977 came "Il' je vedro il' oblačno" on Diskoton and the Jugoton single "Nađija" / "Tri Rahićke". His album Na livadi na serdžadi followed in 1978, Saz in 1981, and Ašikluka više nema on Sarajevo Disk in 1985.
He wrote many songs himself, and some of them, such as "Sa Gradačca bijele kule" and "O sabahski tihi vjetre", are now sung as traditional sevdalinke. Over the years he made more than 3,000 recordings of sevdalinke, which he left to the National Archives. His songs also appear on anthologies such as Antologija BH sevdalinke 4, released by the public broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2006.
He passed his love of the saz on to younger musicians. Jusuf Brkić became his student at the age of twelve and calls him one of the most important masters of sevdah and the saz, and Damir Imamović names him among his teachers, beside the singer Emina Zečaj.
Hašim Muharemović died on 18 September 2012. His recordings, from "Nađija" to "Pod Tuzlom se zeleni meraja", are gathered here in one playlist.
