About Dickless Tracy

Dickless Tracy is a Slovenian death metal and grindcore band, formed in Brežice in 1997. It is one of the longest-running metal bands in Slovenia, and together with Extreme Smoke 57 it makes up the country's old grind scene. The band's name is English slang for a policewoman.

At the heart of the band are the brothers Ivan and Tomi Cepanec, the only original members left: Ivan has played drums from the start, and Tomi has played guitar since 1997 and has also sung since 2004. The first singer was Veljko "Gooyda" Terzić (1997-2004). Through many line-up changes the bass passed from Dejan "DJ" Jordan to Vasja "Bassko" Šinko, Luka "Wrba" Vrbančić and Domen "Juve" Majcen, and Andrej "L' Püss" Šepec drummed from 2010 to 2015. Since 2015 Jernej Rejc has been the bassist.

In 1998, a year after they started, the band released two split records, and soon after came their debut album, The New Domination, a self-release put out through Jedi Govna Tapes. After three more splits, the second album, Of Light and Darkness, followed in 2001. Their only EP, Deeds of Grind (Live in Brezice 2006), was recorded at home in 2006. The third full-length album, Halls of Sickness, came out on On Parole Productions in 2009, and the fourth, Paroxysm of Disgust, on the same label in 2014. In between came four more splits, including one in 2011 with Extreme Smoke 57, the first Slovenian grindcore band. In all they have released four albums, one EP and nine splits.

The band plays a mix of death metal and grindcore but does not like to be boxed into one genre. Ivan Cepanec told the web magazine Rockonnet that for Dickless Tracy grind never meant a set of rules but a field of freedom, mixing and trying things out, as long as it was fast, short, sharp and hard-hitting, in the spirit of the 1990s tape-trading and fanzine scene. After 2014 the band stopped making splits, because, in Tomi Cepanec's words, they were no longer "in".
