About Avdo Vrabac

Abdulah "Avdo" Vrabac was a Bosnian singer and saz player, described on his records as a "bosanski sazlija", a Bosnian saz man. He lived from 1956 to 1996 and sang the old village and love songs of Bosnia to the sound of the saz, the long-necked lute at the heart of izvorna music and the sevdalinka.

His first album, the Jugoton LP Ko se ono brdom šeće, came out in 1983 under the title Avdo Vrabac pjeva i svira saz (Avdo Vrabac sings and plays the saz), with Perica Stjepanović on violin. Its ten songs include "Ko se ono brdom šeće", "Stani, stani, Ibar vodo", "Sedikino kolo" and "Put putuje Latif-aga".

Two cassettes followed on Jugodisk of Belgrade: Od sabaha do akšama in 1984, with "Četvero me ocem zove, a peto se sprema", "Sabah zora ezan uči" and "Čekaj me, draga, ja ću ti doć'", and Šoferska pjesma in 1987, which he arranged himself and which holds "Grana od bora", "Safa", "Tri rahićke" and "Bogata sam, imam svega". In 1990 Diskoton released Mejra na tabutu, with "Puhni vjetre s Trebević planine" and "Urodile sitne trnjinice".

He also appears on several folk compilations of the 1980s, and in 2006 the public broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina included him on its Antologija BH sevdalinke 4. The playlist here holds his two Jugodisk albums.
