About Avdo Lemeš

Avdo Lemeš is a sevdah singer and saz player from Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the few musicians there who both play the saz, the long-necked lute of Bosnian tradition, and sing sevdalinke, the old urban love songs of the country. What gives his work its particular value is that he sings sevdalinke that had been nearly forgotten.

He is a regular name at sevdah concerts. On 18 November 2010 he was the saz player on the traditional side of "Veče sevdalinki", a large sevdah evening at the Sava Centar in Belgrade. At the Baščaršija Nights festival in Sarajevo he was one of the soloists of the "Evening of sevdah" on the central stage at the City Hall, with Nedžad Salković, Hasiba Agić and others, accompanied by the orchestra and choir of RKUD "Proleter" and the orchestra of the Sevdah Foundation. In the pre-festival programme of the third Sarajevo Sevdah Fest he gave an evening of songs from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, accompanying himself on the saz.

His recordings were published by the music production of BHRT, the national broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina, among them the album Aman jada od akšama do sabaha and his part of Antologija BH sevdalinke 4. Among them are "Dunjaluče golem ti si", "Imal' jada ko kad akšam pada", "Šarena sehara", "Sinoć sam ti, Safo" and "Đaurko mila".
