About The Bambi Molesters
The Bambi Molesters were an instrumental surf rock band from Sisak, Croatia, formed in 1995. They played surf rock, the guitar music born in the 1960s, and grew into one of the leading bands of the genre, playing regularly in Croatia and all over Europe and often opening for R.E.M.
The line-up was Dalibor Pavičić and Dinko Tomljanović on guitars, Lada Furlan Zaborac on bass and Hrvoje Zaborac on drums. After the cassette Play Out of Tune (1995) and the 7-inch EP Coastal Disturbance (1996) came their first album, Dumb Loud Hollow Twang (1997/1998), then Intensity! (1999), with the single "Bikini Machines" in between, and Sonic Bullets: 13 From The Hip (2001). Dumb Loud Hollow Twang Deluxe and the live album Backstage Pass followed in 2003.
In 2004 they joined Chris Eckman, leader of the American band The Walkabouts, in the project The Strange. Their last studio album, As the Dark Wave Swells (2010), was reviewed in The Sunday Times and the New Zealand Herald, and in summer 2010 it stood 12th among Amazon's best-selling rock and roll albums; the live album A Night in Zagreb came out in 2011. Over the years the band was written about in Q, Uncut and Shindig!, their songs were played on American and British radio, and at home they won seven Porin awards.
Their music travelled far beyond the stage. "Chaotica" from Sonic Bullets was used in the fifth season of Breaking Bad, "Malaguena" in the Spanish series Arde Madrid, "C Alpha E" in the American film The Treat, and three songs from the first album in the Slovenian film Barabe. They also appeared on compilations from a Link Wray tribute to Projekt R.E.M.
In 2018, after 23 years, The Bambi Molesters announced on Facebook that it was time for a new era and split up, without giving a reason. Their playlist here is the band's Topic channel, with their studio albums and live recordings.
