About Nenad Bach

Nenad Bach is a Croatian American musician, composer and producer. He was born in Zagreb in 1954, with the birth name Nenad Bačić according to Croatian Wikipedia, and that is why he is on Muzika-Balkan under Croatia: he grew up and started his career there before moving abroad.

In 1984 he moved to New York, mainly, Croatian Wikipedia says, so that his children would be born in a democracy. The same article gives the United States as his home today, and his later albums, his film music and his charity work were all made from there.

He studied civil engineering at the University of Rijeka, and while he was in college he co-founded the rock band Vrijeme i Zemlja. According to English Wikipedia the band had two number-one albums: Vrijeme i Zemlja I in 1980 and a Greatest Hits in 1988.

In America he released the album Greatest Hits in 1987, and the video for "You Need a Love" was played on MTV. His best-known song, "Can We Go Higher?", was written as a call for peace and came out as a single in 1993. He sang it at Woodstock '94 and at the Pavarotti & Friends concert in Modena in 1995, and it is on the album Pavarotti & Friends for the Children of Bosnia (1996).

The song is also the heart of his album A Thousand Years of Peace, engineered by John Holbrook, with guests such as Garth Hudson of The Band, Vince Welnick of the Grateful Dead, Graham Maby, David Amram, and the actors Michael York and Martin Sheen. Over the years he has worked with Luciano Pavarotti, Bono and The Edge of U2, Brian Eno and Rick Danko, and in 1998 he appeared on the album News Goo alongside Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen and Allen Ginsberg. Croatian Wikipedia says he has sold more than a million records.

He wrote the score for the film Transatlantic (1998) and for King of Cool, a film about Steve McQueen, and produced albums for the klapas Fortunal, Navalia, Sinj, Fa Lindjo and Luka, as well as records by the Nenad Bach Band in 2010 and 2015. After he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease he found that table tennis helped him play again, and in 2017 he founded the charity Ping Pong Parkinson.
