About Gego
Gego & Picigin Band, better known simply as Gego, is a rock band from the island of Hvar, founded at the start of the 21st century by its singer and lyricist Stjepan Barišić Gego. All of the band's songs are sung in the Hvar dialect. The line-up is Barišić on vocals and bongos, Ante Prgin on drums, Mladen Juričić on guitar and Stanko Kovačić on bass.
Their first album, Gego & Picigin Band, came out in April 2005 and gave them their best-known songs: "Jamajka", "Jo co ko co ko jo", "Dobar don" and "Ca nidir mira nimon", along with "Henjueke" and "Curice ljetne". Barišić wrote the words, most of the music is his too, and guitarist Mladen Juričić arranged the songs.
Forski škoji followed in 2006, with "Jabuka" featuring Marijan Ban and live versions of their island hits, and Kup! Prodoj! in 2008, with "Dojdi" and "Sinoć son ti jo". Gego still performs, most often at the Split festivals: in 2009 the band sang "Mrduja" at the Split Festival, and the later album Brodić na struju brought songs with Klapa Kampanel and Saša Antić.
