About Čao Portorož
Čao Portorož is a rock band from Ljubljana, formed in 2009 out of Friday-night jam sessions. The line-up that made their records was singer and guitarist Gregor Andolšek, bassist and singer Ivian Kan Mujezinović, guitarist Anže Petrič and drummer Aljoša Cetinski; today the band is Andolšek, Mujezinović and drummer Jan Kmet. Their music is described as indie rock and post-punk that grew out of Yugo rock, Yugoslav new wave and 1990s alternative rock, with rough, fast guitars and melodic pop hooks.
They started out in local clubs, and after about a year and a half felt the need to release what they had made. The debut album, Čao Portorož, came out in 2011 on their own, and they toured Slovenia with Radio Študent's Klubski maraton. A second album, again called Čao Portorož, was recorded in the Pekarna in Maribor and released in 2013 by Kapa Records. The band sings mostly in Serbo-Croatian, and also in Slovenian, English and French; the lyrics are simple, often fragmentary, and many songs are named after people, such as "Peter", "Sladjana", "Katarina" and "Roland".
After several quiet years the single "Cocks on the Rocks", their first with an English chorus, announced a turn towards synthesizers, vocoder and a rhythm machine. The third album, Pop, came out digitally on 24 January 2020 on Kapa Records and later on vinyl: seven songs, recorded at Italy's Mushroom Studio and at Kif Kif and produced, like all three albums, by Žare Pak. The title was first meant to be Pop Design, but that name was taken. In February 2020 they played the MENT festival, as they had in 2016, and a fourth album, Design, followed in 2024.
The playlist is the band's own selection of music videos, from "TU TU TU TU TU TU TU" and "Ljubavnik" to "Ljubavna", "Roland", "505" and "Zorane".
