About Protest

Protest was a punk rock band from Sarajevo, formed in 1990 by pupils of the city's secondary school of arts. Singer Damir Nevesinjac was its voice and ideas man, with the brothers Vedad Voloder on guitar and Emin Voloder on bass and Igor Milčević on drums. They named Bad Religion, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, KUD Idijoti, Partibrejkers and Majke as their models.

In the first two years of the war, 1992 and 1993, the band did not play. In 1994 Nedim Zlatar took over the drums, and Protest played several notable club concerts.

Their debut album, with the tongue-twisting title Jedvanosimsoboakalomistobo, was released in Ljubljana in November 1997. It carried "Hit mjeseca", "Boško Buha", "Šiljenje" and "Žao mi je". The same year Protest won first place at the Art and Music festival in Pula, and on 23 September 1997 they opened for U2 at the Koševo stadium in Sarajevo. They also played in Slovenia, Croatia, Germany and the Czech Republic.

The second album, U zemlji karijesa, was recorded at the Pavarotti studio in Mostar and presented in January 2002, with videos for the title song, "Oh captain" and "Underground". The band then stopped unexpectedly at the height of its success, came back together, and ended for good in 2009. In 2024 their songs reappeared on the streaming services in the collection Stara koka.
