About Marko Bulat

Marko Bulat is a Serbian pop-folk singer and musician, born on 21 April 1973 in Smederevo. He grew up in a military family that moved often, to Vrhnika in Slovenia among other places, before settling in Belgrade in 1982. Music and art drew him equally: after secondary school he tried for the art academy without success, but he later studied at the Academy of Art and Conservation of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, where in 2012 his degree work was icon painting for the Church of the Ascension in Krupanj, and he went on to a master's degree. He is known for his paintings, portraits and icons.

His singing career began in 1993 on the Lukas riverboat club in Belgrade, after his military service. When Aca Lukas stopped performing there that year, Bulat, who was in as a guest, told the owner he could sing better, and he started the next day. Lukas later said Bulat was the only singer with the nerve to take that stage after him. English Wikipedia describes his songs as being in the style of Aca Lukas, and calls him very popular with younger audiences and one of the most popular live singers on the scene.

His first album, Srebrne kiše (1996), had "Ritam oko", "Pesma tužnih ratnika" and "Dunav", and on Dete sreće (1997, Centroscena and PGP RTS) he appeared for the first time as composer and lyricist, with "Svanulo je svanulo", "Ela Ela" and "Eno dole u kafani". He sang "Prijatelji, braćo, kumovi" live from 1999 before it named his third album, and Ne postoji sutra, on PGP RTS, was dedicated to his late friend Marko Todorović.

Nebeska kafana (2007) brought the title song, "Maturska", "Tvoje pesme", dedicated to Toma Zdravković, and "Ne pevaj o njoj prijatelju", a duet with Sinan Sakić. Dan za dan (2009) had "Ne daj me nikom" and "Alkohol", and 180 stepeni (2013) and Magija (2018) followed. He sang at the Grand festival in 2008, came second at the Dunavski splavovi festival in 2011, and in 2010 took part in "Survivor Srbija VIP: Filipini".

Marko Bulat celebrated twenty years on stage with a concert at Hala Pionir on 24 November 2013. Later singles include "Kafanska" (2015), "Kad piješ sam" (2017) and "Amerika" (2022).
